At Optimum Performance we think that your life is the most important thing to you, but, from day to day, we see people getting their priorities wrong and think that their body or their mind will cope with what they are doing to it. We think it’s a simple equation: the healthier you are = the better life you will lead.
Unfortunately our modern day lives do not make it easy on us as we are constantly bombarded with gadgets to make our life easier. We see people that try so hard but again and again they fail because they make excuses. We try to look at the barriers and see how you can realise what you can do, after all its not about specific exercises to get results, its about an active lifestyle.
Another problem is that there is so much conflicting information out there on nutrition and exercise and what is the latest gimmic to get you to where you want to be. We all know in the end that its not rocket science, it’s about eating the right foods (less processed) and moving more.
We understand that everyone’s situation is different and everyone has their own journey to make. This is why we look at your goals and barriers and see if we can create ways to move forward. If your children are an excuse, can you not do activities for both of you which will benefit you both in physical, mental and emotional growth?
For any goal we look at the long lasting sustainability of this for your health. This is why we look into the mind and the way you think, your habits and your behaviour patterns. If we can’t change these then nothing is long term and it becomes a diet.
The way you think creates the life you lead, whether that is emotional eating, motivation, negativity, environmental factors. If you can’t change the way you think then you will keep repeating the same patterns and getting the same results.
If you are trying to change your mindset then we all know it’s not easy and hardly anybody does it alone without the help of family and friends. We understand this, so with each personal training client we offer a discount on classes to help move forward and make it more achievable.
One of the major barriers is that it costs too much and I always question why they think this. Here are a number of excuses we are going to tackle.
Healthy food is expensive – individual items can be expensive but when you make a meal it can make 6 to 8 portions for a person so in the long run you get more for your money. It is more cost effective and healthier than buying pre-packaged meals.
It doesn’t fill me up – that is because the foods aren’t calorie dense, these are quality calories that your body can utilise and you can then eat more meals throughout the day.
Training is expensive – you don’t have to join a gym or even go to a class, remember knowledge is power and so long as you have the motivation to move forward you will achieve, as you can see by one of our clients Greg who has lost up to 10 stone now and never set foot in a gym to achieve his goals.
Don’t know what to do, can’t afford a PT – you don’t have to have a PT every workout, you could have one once a week which will keep you on top of your goals and set you homework to achieve your goals. One session doesn’t get you there so they should be setting you workouts that you can do on your own. A PT is meant to educate you, you don’t have to have one for life, but if they are not teaching you something then maybe look for another, as you still have to achieve on your own.
At the end of the day I ask clients “what value do you put on your life?” You could live to be 100 years old so don’t you think you should take better care of it? You look after your car, feed it the right fuel, take it in for its MOT, shouldn’t we be treating our bodies the same way? This is why your health is a long term investment and not a short term cost.
